YOGA FOR PAIN RELIEF

Yoga poses for back pain relief

All these poses focus on muscle group related to the back (upper, middle and lower).

They engage the entire back including the shoulder blades and spine. They are very good to work towards a permanent relief from back pain. These asanas drive full back movements and improve the muscle tone and posture. They open up the chest, boost lung capacity leading to better circulation of oxygen and blood flow. Together all the poses improve the heart function and help release the toxins from the back muscles.

Transitioning between these poses and holding them at least to the count to 20 will encourage fluid movement, focus on breath, enhancing mental clarity and mindfulness. Playing with our kids, everyday tasks like hand movements will become easy, back stiffness will go away and will just improve the overall quality of our life.

Yoga Poses for Legs and Hip Strengthening

Weak leg muscles are the reason for loss of balance and consequent falls. The injuries can be dangerous and can take time to recover. The asanas shown above will help strengthen the full leg muscle group (includes glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps and calves). The stretches help heal the muscles near the knee joints and ankle joints. Our daily movements like running, walking, climbing are totally dependent on our leg muscles and keeping them strong is of utmost importance.

These asanas will help open up the hips resulting in good support to the back and spine muscles. They will allow you to sit and stand up again independently without using any support or without the use of your hands! Exactly the way we did when we were kids.

Yoga Poses for Spine Strengthening

A strong spine allows you to sit straight, walk straight and sleep comfortably. Movements like bending, twisting, playing some sport , lifting things become easier with a flexible spine. All the asanas mentioned above work on strengthening the muscles around the spine. The camel pose is slightly difficult as it involves bending backwards but is really helpful in full spine flexibility. Boat pose or bridge pose are its counter poses. All these poses help in improving our spine, lubricating the joints around it and allow it to better support our skeletal bones and back muscles. A strong spine is important for better neurological functions as well. These asanas will help calm the nerves and provide massage to the muscles and internal organs.

Who doesn’t want to move , sit straight in a meditation pose calmly and contemplate how we can move closer to achieving our dreams? You can run, play your favorite sport easily without having the fear of fall or injury as a strong spine has good shock absorbing abilities for our body.

All in all all these 15 asanas are all beginner friendly and can be done easily with little practice daily. A well structured routine of yoga practice is the key to an energized  pain free life, and the calorie burn is a bonus to the body. Yoga teaches and imbibes discipline in us which makes it easier for us to adopt a healthy lifestyle and stay away from indulgence and look at food as a source of nourishment instead of entertainment. It teaches us to listen to our body and work in harmony with it. Portion control, managing cravings, consistency all require a strong healthy mind.

Caution! You need to be careful and do the asanas in presence of family or a guide in case you have any medical conditions.
